Now that my posts at GamePolitics have become more regular, I have my own category there! I guess we can’t call them “guest articles” anymore. Anyway, there’s a new article reviewing Mona Ibrahim’s Gamasutra article on the legality of reverse-engineering. Mona’s article is very well done, and I suggest that aspiring independent developers give it a once-over.

I’ve got a second guest article up at GamePolitics, this time about 2K’s decision to implement DRM (specifically SecuROM and Games for Windows Live Activation) in BioShock 2 after the debacle that was DRM in BioShock 1.

The IGDA IP Rights SIG Steering Committee elections are over, and the new members are myself, Tom Barbalet (chair), Stephen Rubin, and Ross Dannenberg. The SIG was responsible for the development of the IGDA IP Rights White Paper, and hopes to revise and expand on the existing document this year. If you have any questions or suggestions for the Committee, please feel free to contact me.

Long time without an update!
In other news, I’ll be at GDC in San Francisco next week. Feel free to send me a message on twitter (@swatjester) to catch me!
Also, I’ll be receiving the IGDA’s GDC scholarship award on Tuesday night at GDC. If you’re an IGDA member, and you RSVP’d for the event you can catch me there.

I’ll be attending VGXPO in Philly next weekend, though I don’t have any speaking engagements planned. Also, I’ve recently written a two part exclusive preview of LotRO: The Mines of Moria over at Stratics, with over 80 exclusive screenshots. You can read the first part here.
Also, my comment on jurisdictional analysis and the harmful-effects doctrine in MMORPGs is almost finished, and the first completed draft should be done by Tuesday. Hopefully I’ll be seeing info on publishing by December or early January.
For day to day updates, catch me over at GamesLaw.

Some revamps to our network. I’m pleased to announce the creation of GamesLaw.net, my new project for analysis of the trends in video game law. Also, we’re finally going to do something with the wiki-lawyer.net domain, and officially move the Wikilaw blog onto its proper locations (wiki-lawyer.net for all Wiki related posts, GamesLaw.net for games related posts). This site will remain here but be getting a bit of an update and maybe a facelift.

On June 21st from 1pm-2pm, I’ll be a guest on “Midday” on NPR in Baltimore, MD. Almost anyone in the Maryland area should be able to listen in. I’ll be taking call-in questions regarding Wikis and Wikimedia. More information as I get it.
