Dan is a political-tracked Foreign Service Officer, currently serving as an Economic/Commercial Officer at U.S. Embassy Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. As a commercial attaché, Dan acts as the U.S. Department of Commerce’s representative in Ethiopia, assisting U.S. firms in finding local representation for international trade, as well as advocating on behalf of U.S. firms in the competitive bidding process for contracts and tender offers. As an economic attaché, Dan is responsible for monitoring and reporting on the macroeconomic health of Ethiopia, as well as negotiating for the privatization and liberalization of the commercial economy in the country. Dan advocates on behalf of U.S. companies in expropriation cases, and his portfolio covers intellectual property rights (IPR) issues as well as the ongoing WTO accession process by the government of Ethiopia. In 2012, Dan will be a visiting lecturer at the Addis Ababa University Faculty of Law, the premiere law school in the nation of Ethiopia. He is also a member of the Joint Emergency Task Force responsible for monitoring and coordinating U.S. response on the ground to the Horn of Africa drought.
